I took the kids to the swap meet this morning. Other than one subsidized donut (Daddy food stamps), anything they buy has to be with their own money. N got a fairly decent $5 soccer ball and a handful of Matchbox cars and was happy as a clam. L got a couple of paperback books for a quarter each and a Betty Boop DVD for a buck. Her favorite purchase, however, reminded me that this particular apple of mine landed right up against the trunk. My little nerd-in-training came upon a pile of random junk, squealed, and made a dive headfirst for the prize that caught her eye: a plastic Star Wars figurine to clip on to her school backpack.
Now she too can look forward to being one of the more popular kids, just like her old man.
